Dropping Bombs

As we wade into the mess of what is the tension in the Middle East, the conflict between Israel and Iran, which has been going on since shortly after Genesis 16, I think about those bombs that we call “bunker busters” or MOP’s. Those things are heavy (30,000 lbs I believe) and large (20 feet long with a diameter of 32 inches) and can sink in to 200 feet of earth upon detonation. When they detonate, there is an explosion that puts off so much light that it is blinding! That is an amazing thing. Now, I’m not trying to be political. I’m simply stating the fact that there are these bombs and what they are created for. See, those bombs would reveal any hidden structure and destroy down to, and probably beyond, the foundation it was sitting on. What I was thinking about though is the term “dropping truth bombs”.

The truth works in a very similar fashion. The truth carries much weight, simply because it is truth. It’s the reason a man, whose word is his bond, when he speaks it is said to “carry weight”. The truth is also large. Truth is magnified in the world, and seems even larger when compared to lies. And just like that light that is emitted when detonation occurs from the bunker buster, truth sheds light into this world, again, simply because it is truth. And just like the destruction from those MOPs, truth destroys the lies, down to and beyond the foundation. When that truth is recognized by us, that revelation is glorious! We have a Father who loves us like no other and offers promises that He will never break.

See, we live in a dark, broken world which believes that it can create truth. Truth is created by God only. In fact, Jesus is that Truth. He breaks the bonds of this world that are formed by lies, sheds light and offers us rescue. And He offers it freely and eternally. All that He asks for is relationship in return. Now, He requires our full attention to the relationship. We can’t be “foolin’ around” on Him. We can’t love the world (live by the lies of satan and the flesh) and love Him. We are to die to the world and the flesh and seek Him whole heartedly. If we live with Him in this relationship, then we are guaranteed entrance into that eternity with Him.

So, just as with the dropping of the MOP’s relates to a step towards a people getting to live in a free society, this Truth is much greater. Seek the Truth because the Truth will set you free! (John 8:31-32)
